Hello everyone! I know you've reached my website for a way to get rid of computer viruses circulating on the Internet today.

So for starters I would like to give a definition of computer viruses :"A computer virus is a malware program that, when executed, replicates by inserting copies of itself (possibly modified) into other computer programs, data files, or the boot sector of the hard drive; when this replication succeeds, the affected areas are then said to be "infected"  (Wikipedia)

Computer Viruses pose a problem for any Internet user and default computer user.

Well, there are many ways your computer can become infected with viruses:

Software bugs

 Because software is often designed with security features to prevent unauthorized use of system resources, many viruses must exploit security bugs (security defects) in system or application software to spread. Software development strategies that produce large numbers of bugs will generally also produce potential exploits.

 Social engineering and poor security practices

 In order to replicate itself, a virus must be permitted to execute code and write to memory. For this reason, many viruses attach themselves to executable files that may be part of legitimate programs. If a user attempts to launch an infected program, the virus' code may be executed simultaneously. ^.In operating systems that use file extensions to determine program associations (such as Microsoft Windows), the extensions may be hidden from the user by default. This makes it possible to create a file that is of a different type than it appears to the user. For example, an executable may be created named "picture.png.exe", in which the user sees only "picture.png" and therefore assumes that this file is an image and most likely is safe, yet when opened runs the executable on the client machine

 Opening e-mail attachments 

 Another very common way people become infected with viruses and other spyware is by opening e-mail attachments, even when from a co-worker, friend, or family member. E-mail addresses can be faked and even when not faked your acquaintance may unsuspectingly be forwarding you an infected file

      

 Not running the latest updates

Internet Downloads:
 Any material downloaded from the Internet, whether they are programs, documents, music files, video files and compressed files etc., could potentially contain a virus. Therefore, be sure to scan these files first with your Anti-Virus software before you launch them. Today’s modern Anti-Virus software will usually be set to scan these downloaded files for you or at least prompt you with a reminder to do so. If not then do it manually.  


Removable Media:
 Removable Media such as Floppy Disks, Re-Writable Compact and DVD Disks, Zip Disks, USB Memory and Flash Drive are often exchanged and used from one machine to another, especially in an office. Therefore, be sure to frequently scan these removable devices to prevent infection. Today’s modern Anti-Virus software will contain a built in feature where you can simply right-click on the Removal Device itself within My Computer or Windows Explorer and then choose a menu option to scan that device. In other words, if you want to scan a floppy disk, then right-click on the A: Drive within Windows Explorer and then choose a selection on the order of Scan for Viruses

As you can see there are a lot of  ways your computer can get infected!

PC security is a big concern these days, given the uncountable number of ways people may attack you. Be it internet security or the safety of your personal data, you need to have an advanced security mechanism to ensure the security of your computer. 4. Use a firewall, particularly if you have a good amount of internet access. Firewall prevents outside users from entering into your network. You can ensure the internet safety through this.

Keep the programs list clean. Keep browsing your Add/Remove Program menu to see if there is anything suspicious.
